ANIMAL EMERGENCY HOSPITAL HISTORY
The Animal Emergency Clinic was founded in 1985 by eighteen Genesee area veterinarians that wished to offer better after-hours emergency and critical care services to their clients. There was an urgent need for a centralized location specially equipped to provide emergency care for the greater Flint pet population. The clinic was formed to treat patients on a referral basis from the area daytime veterinary hospitals and began service with a veterinarian available after hours 365 days a year.
The Animal Emergency Clinic came under new ownership in 2004 and the name was changed to the Animal Emergency Hospital in keeping with the advancement of capabilities and equipment. The hospital has since grown to serve over fifty area veterinary hospitals in Genesee County and a second hospital opened in Macomb County on August 14, 2006, which serves the greater metro Detroit area. In January 2010, the Flint hospital moved to a bigger location in Burton, which still serves all of Genesee County.
The Animal Emergency Hospital's mission is to provide exceptional emergency and critical care veterinary services to the Greater Flint and Metro Detroit areas at a reasonable cost. The hospitals are equipped with modern diagnostic equipment including ECG, defibrillator, pulse oximeters, IV pumps, ultrasound, ICU Snyder units, constant rate infusion pumps, surgical cautery, in-house laboratory with blood machines, and a radiology machine. The technical staff is trained in all phases of cardiopulmonary resuscitation including open-chest CPR and defibrillation.
All forms of payment are accepted including Mastercard, Visa, Discover, American Express. AEH also offers CareCredit, which is a payment plan service that is available based on submission of an electronic application. The hours of operation are 6 pm to 9 am Weekdays and 24 hours on Weekends and Holidays.
